Work-in-Progress (WIP) - Leopard Cub - pastel.

A16x12" pastel W-I-P leopard cub that I started work on in the early hours of this morning. The first pastel that I've done in many years. Love the medium, the range of colours is what turns me on, mostly.
I call myself 'smudge' when I work in pastels. Last night was no exception. Go to the bathroom, and look in the mirror, and my face is covered in dark smudges!
I'm tired today, but hope to finish this before the week is out.
Thank you for looking.

Registration of Interest - Art classes and more.

Just now settling in enough to look at starting up classes or workshops in Adelaide, so I'm currently looking for registration of interest from students and artists who may like to join in on Plein Air sessions, and more.
I have taught here previously, and also have been teaching in the USA.
Just trying to coordinate students, venues, times and class formats.
Thank you.

Now available, and more coming ... FINE ART PRINTS of my art. Choose quality and framing you want!

http://artistjillian.imagekind.com/

After initially opening a store on ImageKind in 2008, I'm now revitalizing this. My art has never been available as prints like this anywhere else. I think it's time to resurface.

FINE ART PRINTS STARTING FROM JUST $17 ...

ImageKind is a 'print-on-demand' online store where my art is on file so that you can choose what artwork YOU want - be it a simple, inexpensive, quality art print on paper, all the way up to framed and matted art that is perfect for where you choose to display it.

ImageKind has been around for quite a while (mid 2000s I think - a CafePress Division), and comes with extensive experience and professional help for online buyers.

Thank you for your support of my art.

4th ACEO in my 'garden' series on vintage paper from 1887.

A new ACEO (2.5x3.5")by me and just listed on eBay. "Living High" - an elegant birdhouse in a lovely house's garden.

This elegant birdhouse is probably 'high living' for most birds, but birds also need 'living high' to stay out of harm's way.

On eBay: http://tinyurl.com/qxv2w9m my original pen and wash (ink and watercolor) on vintage 1887 hand-written ledger paper. Backed with card stock.

10 more dollhouse miniature (1:12 scale) paintings.

I'm doing an archive of all my art (no easy task). Currently working on my dollhouse miniatures. I'm up to page 4.
This is a link to this page on my 'artistjillian' website:
http://www.artistjillian.com/miniature-art-dh04
Graphic shown above is a pictorial summary of the 10 original paintings on that page. The page includes painting details. All are 1:12 scale.
Some of these were done for themed work for miniature enthusiasts (Paris/Tuscany) specifically for their dollhouses/room boxes.

Plein Air at Hanley Farm, Jacksonville. Painting SOLD!

In June (on Flag Day) I went to a Plein Air/Watercolor paint-out at Historic Hanley Farm, in Jacksonville. I was motivated to do this pen and wash of the front of the old house - it was all decked out for the occasion, and for the up-coming 4th of July.

I had just been accepted as an artist in the "Art Presence Art Center" in Jacksonville (museum grounds), and so planned to frame it and put it in their July "Red, White, and Blue" exhibition.

I ended up with about 16 paintings in the exhibition, and included 4 of my miniature watercolors, along with a large magnifying glass so that the details in these paintings could be enjoyed.

Being a "Co-Op" gallery, I was doing my turn to tend the gallery one Saturday, and a gentleman came in and purchased this artwork. It was a lovely surprise!

It's a SFA (Small Format Art), 7x5".

"The Rusty Banshee" SFA 5x7" watercolor painting seascape/marine art

I love all things ocean, sea, marine, having grown up just a few hundred yards from a wonderful beach, with ocean docks, wharves just a few miles further up the coast. This is from Crescent City, on the northern Californian coast. A small format artwork (SFA) in watercolor - 5x7".

The rust is what caught my eye most of all. And it's rendered pretty much like it was. I think and hope this rusty old Banshee is getting ready to go out on the waters again some day.

I have this painting up for auction at a low starting price on Daily Paintworks website - HERE. Please check out my other auctions on this site. The house from my previous post is also up for auction on there.

Looking for that perfect gift?

Not too early to be thinking Christmas presents. This is the first time I've offered custom 5x7" watercolor portraits (home or ?) https://www.etsy.com/listing/167103113/custom-art-watercolor-painting-portraits?

Think what a wonderful treasured keepsake an original watercolor painting of a much loved home would be for yourself, a close family member, or friend.

It makes for a very personal gift, and can also solve the problem of buying for those that may be difficult to buy for. And one where it's value is not seen as just a price tag - irreplaceable at any cost! It's easy to give as a gift, especially when dealing with increasing shipping charges, this can be sent as a document. Or you can gift it complete with a wonderful frame to add a finishing touch.

A home can mean so much to many. I can work from various images, though a good photograph is usually best. For nearly 20 years I drew houses as a self-employed contractor for Real Estate companies - doing over 9,000. I adore houses and architecture - it is near and dear to my heart, so I'd love to create a lasting treasure for you, too.

I can send a gift certificate if you don't or can't get a photo from your intended gift recipient.

This listing is for an artist's rendering in watercolor, done approximately 5x7" image size - this will usually fit a 8x10" frame, once matted.

If you like the idea of custom art I offer other variations - please see my other offers here on Etsy in my shop section for custom work: https://www.etsy.com/shop/artistjillian?section_id=5029301 - or convo me on Etsy or email me and we can talk about variations. I can offer many different options for you. You can also order direct from me by emailing me - and I offer discounts for multiple orders.

2 more little paintings - miniature art for dollhouses.

I'm enjoying doing some miniature dollhouse paintings. I'm sticking with 2" x 1.5" format, in watercolors. I have reconnected with a wonderful lady who can be contacted for frames for them. I did two more this past week, that is all I had time for. A local garden that caught my eye, with a 'wheelbarrow' full of flowers being hit by wonderful sunshine ("Fun In The Sun"). And an old pump house from one of the many nearby pear orchards. I still have one romantic beach scene that didn't sell from the past week. You can see my latest miniature paintings listed HERE on eBay. Thank you for looking. ~Jillian

My ACEOs incorporating graphic design - journal covers

I have a lot of scans of my old, sold ACEOs, and love using them for other purposes. I've shown before how I created magnets from them. Now I've been even more creative, putting them on the front of journals, with other design elements.

Hope you'll take a look in the "WHAT'S NEW" section of my Cafe Press store:

I'm doing more right now, so be sure to bookmark it.
Thanks for looking.

Where am I?

sope creek, marietta, Georgia, my apartment, artistjillian, jillian crider, moved, change,
I get emails from friends asking where am I - and then saying that they are looking on my site at my blog to catch up with my latest news. I think this means that probably I am going to have to update with more than art news.
Life is an adventure. Never more so than now.

The twists and turns of life can never be assumed or taken for granted. In many ways I'm not pleased at my change of plans, but at the same time, I have shouted to the heavens that I will not let things get me 'down'.

The adventures I am on are currently a curiousity and I will ride them as I feel myself grow with them, letting my passion and zest for life touch and caress the world around as I pass through this transition to the future which lays firmly ahead in the unknown, untried zone.
I am in Atlanta, Georgia, USA. Marietta, in fact. Home of the big chicken. What a boon to say I live on the same road as the big chicken - run a search on 'big chicken' - you'll find it! I remember it from 20+ years ago when I lived in nearby Smyrna.

I guess it's part of re-living some of my past, moving away from my son who lives south-side of this incredible city that seems to constantly be on the move.

An appropriate city for one in transition.
Come with me.
Discover.
Experience.

"Pocket Money" - magazine Illustration

The final one of the 3 is actual also one that I had a different idea in mind, first, and even submitted it.
But as it was partially photographic, it was unsuitable.

This version then came to mind, and was accepted.
It's about a police woman, some shooting, and a pick-pocket. Pen and Ink.
Hope you like them all.

~Jillian

"Momma's Boarding House" magazine Illustration

Another FMAM magazine illustration for a story that was about a woman that runs a boarding house, and she is always trying to save money to keep it afloat but there is also death associated with the people she deals with.

I found this one difficult to come up with something. I started off with totally different images to the final.

The editor really liked this one, so was worth it. I rather like it, too.
It wasn't an easy one to think of something to show for that particular story.

"Killing Time" - magazine illustration

Well, for quarterly publication 'Futures for Story Lovers' it's that time again...
I got asked to do 3 illustrations this time.
It's an interesting magazine - stories with twists.
http://www.futuresforstorylovers.com is the site - go look!

One story was about death and time travel.
It had the title something like Time Travel Death - I suggested renaming it 'Killing Time', and that was accepted. :)
Fun to do things like that.
Anyway, my illustration is shown above.

Atlanta Artists Center - DeFoor's Art Auction

Defoor art exhibition 2003 arist designer Jillian Crider Atlanta Artists Center fund raiser
Well, it was exciting to be asked to design some awards for the Atlanta Artists Center (AAC) a few weeks ago (you can get a tiny glimpse of them on their site, in photos when they were presented).
From there I was asked to design an invitation for up-coming art auction & show at Defoor Center.
I attacked it in a non-traditional manner, wanting lots of 'life' to it. But didn't want anything too abstract arty as so many of our artists at AAC are traditional realists.
Since then I have received a lot of compliments, but really made me believe it today when I was doing colour enlarged photocopies in Kinko's of a poster I did designed around the same style and a complete stranger couldn't stop looking at the poster, and instead of commenting on the event, he raved about how good the design was!
When I told him I designed it, he told me I should do it as a business. Being a stranger, I was quite amazed that it had such a reaction.
If you'd like to see the invitation it's at AACs website. And if you're in Atlanta, go into the site, to 'Defoors' and you can download a printable copy of the invitation to print for yourself and any friends you might think will be interested to attend.

Thanx.
