My 10th 'garden' series ACEO. Watercolor with pen and ink on vintage paper.

Original painting - ACEO (2.5x3.5") - SFA - Small Format Art (Any artwork not over 14"). "Birdy Condo"

"Original unique artwork. I love and collect old papers, but there are so many wonderful things to do with them. This is a genuine 1887 handwritten ledger page, backed with acid-free cardstock. Some of the original handwriting appears on the vintage paper.

On top I've done some pen and wash paintings/sketches from my photos of gardens and other delights.

A weathered birdhouse condominium-style by the Oregon coast. A scattering of pink roses trailing over the sides of it. I don't know if birds like to live condo-style, but it sure looks great in the garden with salt-weathered wood.

I've used white gesso under some of the painting - as this helps to make the colors 'pop' a little more. This is the same type of sketching used in art journals, urban sketches, and travel diaries.

P.S. For locals that may like to guess. This is in Charleston, OR.

The trials and tribulations of painting in small sizes ...

Many of my paintings are miniature, and, as such, they can go 'missing' easily. This one, a watercolor, "North Adelaide Roses" has been out of sight and out of mind for quite some years.

1:12 scale, sold framed, size of art is approximately 1.75 x 1.5". There are lots of tiny details in this work.

Dogwoods in Atlanta.
How do you describe pure delight and discovery?
Why did I never discover these from when I was here before (1975-1983)?
The dogwoods are scattered throughout the woods that abound in Atlanta.
The blossoms are large - just 4 petals. Delicate. They are held on delicate limbs, with no leaves, so they 'float' through the air. They follow the sun, and the spring sun makes the white such a bright color.
How you you describe looking at lace delicately but abundantly sprinkled throughout the taller trees just regaining their green after the bareness of winter? The white such a contrast to the dark trunks and sparce greenery that becomes a jungle of green with the sultry summer humidity.
The delicate white blossoms appear as if they float on air. Truly magical fairy wings fluttering.
The large petals make it seem as if a cloud of delicate white butterflies has drifted to earth to filter through the forest, and reach out to delight the heart and eye. They appear in unexpected places, suddenly and briefly, to add joy to the day, for they are the art of today. Enjoy! It does the soul so good and adds poetry to the heart that sighs within one's existence.

Spring is hell for hayfever sufferers. The blossoms are incredible. Azaelias are gorgeous, the pollen shows on the cars. This is the apartment group that I live in, and the Dodge Ram 1500 pickup (country cadillac) that I'm driving.

"Sunkist Starburst" 11x14" Acrylic painting of Roses

This one finished Wednesday night, after about 25 hours work.
"Sunkist Starburst"
Took it in today (took the photo on the passenger side of the car) to Atlanta Artist's Center to be juried. Tagged for donation to Grady Hospital.
Not only was it accepted, but won an award of recognition.
It's 11x14".
It will be part of a re-decoration program with a big social event mid-January.
I can submit 3 more pieces to sell at that time if I want, and will mingle with 600 guests who will be who's who, of Atlanta.
