A word on displaying and collecting original art.

http://www.jilliancrider.com

Art adds SO much character and adds interest to one's decor.

A few years back I decked all my walls full of art. Some were from floor to ceiling. Some were my art pieces, but it included others' work, too.
I loved to look up and see it. It gave me a lot of joy.

But even more amazing, my visitors loved it. People would come in and go directly to my walls, and conversations would start up. Even people that were usually not interested in art were attracted to it.
While one large artwork over a sofa might be asthetically pleasing, maybe my ideas of collecting and displaying art might be a lovely alternative for some.
This is some of my art as displayed in my apartment a few years back. A SFA (Small Format Art - search on SFA to discover more online) watercolor 5x7" of a Royal Doulton teacup with pink roses. There is an ACEO (2.5x3.5" - search on ACEO to discover more online) on top of the china cabinet, too. And a 12x36" acrylic on canvas of music artist "Sammy Blue" (google him to check his work), a friend of mine.
Original art is OOAK - only one of a kind. If you want to be unique, this is a wonderful way to go. Great works can be found online - I'm sure you can find some to fit YOUR budget.

Happy collecting and decorating. Enjoy!

"Tuscan" oil 3x3" miniature landscape

mini landscape art acrylic oil canvas painting by artist jillian crider 3x3"
I've had lots of things happening. Can't believe almost 2 months have gone by since I posted last.

I put the last pastel up on ebay, but didn't sell. I tried several artworks up on eBay - mostly old work, without good results, though I sold one old miniature, so was pleased about that. I wasn't getting people looking at my listings, it seemed really 'slow'.

I did a tiny oil of a Tuscan inspired scene, and didn't get any results from that - not that I really expected to. I am just about to revamp my selling art page on my site, and was going to add it, then thought about documenting it here. It's 3x3" on a gallery wrap canvas. I think I did this in oils.

It's kinda cute! Not sure what I'll do with it.
It was fun to do, anyway.

EDIT. Update: Sold to a wonderful co-worker.

Pink rose painting - Acrylic 6"x12"

pink rose blossom and buds original acrylic painting on canvas by artist Jillian Crider
Just finished this one yesterday - the 3rd rose I've done in the past month. This one is 6x12" on canvas - a slightly odd shape, but, as such, it's eye-catching.
Hope you like it.

"Two Plus One, In Pink".

I've also just finished a series of 6 'cartoon-type' illustrations for a book, and a magazine illustration.

"White Roses" Acrylic painting - 11x14"

original acrylic painting of white roses on bush in garden by artist Jillian Crider 14x11"
Another acrylic rose - on stretched canvas, with sides painted. I've posted it on my site, larger, and without the frame, but couldn't resist 'playing' with framing, as it sometimes really sets off my work.
White is such a funny colour to work with, as, to paint something white, you just about have to use every other colour but white!
Still I do ink sketches, and even though the only 'colour' you use is black, you need to make your subject look like shades of grey and black, as well as using the white of the paper to create your art.

This one is 14x11".
Not sure what my next art project will be.
One gallery wants some nudes.
I have a 'commercial' project to do ... some book illustrations, so need to get on with those, I guess.
