Cowboy artwork - the story continues...

A lump in my throat ...
Saturday I went to a cowboy symposium, north of Atlanta. I went to the same one, last year. Last year I talked to many of the exhibitors, there were some great 'characters' showing the crafts of yesteryear, I took hundreds of photos. I told some people about my art, there were artists there, but also spoke to the people I took photos of. Not long after that visit I did an ink sketch as an ACEO of one of the 'cowboy' characters who had posed for me. I listed it, it didn't get much attention, but did get one late bid, and sold. When I went to pack it, the address was North Georgia, the emails I got seemed like the person knew me, but I was too embarrassed to ask 'Do I know you?'
I wondered if it might have been 'my' cowboy subject. No sooner did I arrive at the symposium than I was face to face with my subject. 'Do you remember me?' I asked. He did. So I asked if he had bought my ACEO. No. He knew nothing about it. He wanted to see it and took my card with website so he could see it.I walked away puzzled - ok, if he didn't buy it. Who did?Was I imagining the feeling that someone I 'knew' had bought it? Not long afterwards I was walking towards the blacksmith's stall, and I saw his name in amongst his signs, and knew it was he that had bought it.
I talked to him, and thanked him. He told me how much he loved it, how he 'had' to have it. He told me he loves handmade items and usually only buys handmade items for his house/office. My work is framed and in his office, he even told me where, and how everyone comments on it. But what he said, after that was the reason I'm writing this. He said to me...I only buy handmade things. Anyone can go into a store and buy a picture, etc. for $20. Walk outside the store, and you would be lucky to get 50cents if you put it in a garage sale. "Your painting is different. It won't be going in no garage sale. It is already earmarked to be passed on to my grandson when I'm gone, and he knows that it is something to be treasured, and I am sure he will pass it on to his heirs, too - your art will live forever, and I was so happy that you gave me the opportunity to own your art."
Talk about a lump in my throat. ~Jillian

ACEOs and now SFA, too! Small Format Art - and other ventures.
Haven't posted in a while.
Sometimes life becomes a jumble, especially when you have no clear direction, and things you believe in, suddenly are found to be not what you thought at all.
Still pursuing making mainly Art Cards (ATCs/ACEOs) - 2.5x3.5" I still believe in them as an exciting art movement.
I have a group on ebay 'ATC & ACEO Enthusiasts' that is now 1,400 members strong, and growing daily.
I also promote SFA - small format art. That group is 280 members strong. This is artworks, no larger than 14" in any one direction. I also have a new website that backs up this group.
My latest venture follows through from me teaching this past few months, second graders at elementary schools, about Australia. This is in conjunction with the Australian Bakery Cafe which is about 3 miles from where I live. It is fun listening to the kids' questions. ...."How do you brush your teeth in Australia?" :)
I am putting my Australian photos, and will be drawing some typical Australian themed works to put on items. I have a website to back that all up - http://www.oz4usa.com.
Recently I went to a circus and photo'd clowns, and to the Georgia Renaissance Festival, where I took over 700 photos, and I'm starting to turn them into art cards featuring these characters. I love doing them. So hope you'll look at my 'Art Trading Cards' tab on my site, to take a look.
Have a great day!
Thanks for stopping by.

$400+ frame for my painting.

I haven't put in work for a juried show since June, and got to do that today. I got juried in, again. :) I guess that is a great record as have gotten into all shows that I've submitted to so far for AAC. Only one entry this time.
Cost me a fortune to frame this, but it needed to be framed, or I was scared it would get destroyed.
"Venetian Glass Blowers" - from my visit there (Venice) in the mid-1970s.
At largest it is 40".
Meantime I have just passed my 100th ACEO/ATC - Art Trading Card (2.5x3.5" - nearly every one of them has sold. Search on ebay for ACEO - discover this wonderful world of collectible art!

Two more artworks juried in to AAC Grandview Exhibition.
Two more artworks juried in to the latest monthly show at Atlanta Artists Center Gallery!
Wouldn't you know it? The one I got framed especially didn't get in! One that was previously rejected got in, also a 2ndry print of my aquatint got in.
I won't get in next month, as it's restricted to new members only.
Anyway, I'm thrilled. Quite and honour.
Also last night was the first art evening for the first Friday in the month in conjunction with Basil's Restaurant - I also got juried into that :)
Needlessly I'm well pleased.
Regards,
Jillian

Newspaper review includes MY art - Quinlan Art Center, Gainesville.

Well, the Traveling show from February is now in Gainesville, north of Atlanta.
The Quinlan is a fabulous venue, and the reception last week was a treat.
We also had a great showing in Dawsonville and Carrollton.
Today I received the review in the Gainesville newspaper. As the director for it I was so proud to get a terrific write-up. But one remark re MY artwork caught me by surprise.
Jillian Crider's "Dawn Beach Trotters" is another example of astonishing technique."
NO! I didn't write it myself or pay for it *grin*.
So proud of the whole show. Here's the review. I have no idea how long this link will be 'good'.

This is a fairly large watercolor - probably about 20x15" or so?
Regards,
Jillian
