watercolour painting mermaid little girl with leafy sea dragon miniature art ACEO

A watercolour I did probably about 10 years ago? An ACEO (Art Cards, Editions and Originals - always 2.5x3.5") collectible artwork.

A little girl who's kind mother allowed me to photo her at the Port Adelaide Fisherman's Wharf Market around 2002. To me she made the perfect mermaid, I included a leafy seadragon in my painting. She had such an appealing impish look on her face.

I think sometimes, you need to revisit what you do, to see where you are with your art, and, perhaps, where you're going.

I do think that I will be returning to doing watercolours in future. Such a wonderful painting medium.

"Welcome Home" A lamp lit in a window - small artwork.

https://bluethumb.com.au/jillian-crider/Artwork/welcome-home-jillian-crider

Nothing is more heartwarming than the glow of a lamp in the window - a warm embrace of a 'Welcome Home' especially amid the cold chill and bare branches of winter.
This work compelled me to paint it when I saw such a scene one wintery night. It signals caring for the family member that has not yet returned home.

It appears slightly different in various lights due to the deep blue/black of the main colour, which extends onto the sides of the canvas.
SFA (Small Format Art) is great art to hang with meaning and love, for those empty little spaces in your home, perhaps in your foyer, by your lamp? Reminding others that you care. Unframed. Ready to hang. Able to be framed. Available on Bluethumb website (Au) ships world-wide.

Another in my 'garden' series ACEOs (2.5x3.5"). Pansies "The Pansy Patch" - pen and wash (watercolor) on top of old (1887-88) handwritten ledger paper.

I loved pansies as a child, and still always see laughing, happy faces in the 'face' of each one of them.

Beyond the white picket fence ... a birdhouse that mimics its 'big' house. ACEO art.

When does a house become a home?

I think it's when you can see how much an owner loves their own house.

Beyond the white picket fence ... this house, shows it with the 'little' version of their house turned into a birdhouse, outside their living room window.

Pen and wash (watercolor) ACEO 2.5x3.5" on vintage handwritten ledger paper (1887).

"Fall Shadows" Pen and Wash pumpkins on a lovely doorstep. ACEO

My 5th in my new series. ACEO (2.5x3.5") pen and wash (watercolor) sketch/painting on vintage (1887) old ledger paper. "Fall Shadows" - those beautiful sunny days, but with evening shadows creeping in on all the fall loveliness, as it did with these pumpkins on a very seasonally dressed doorstep.

Available on eBay. http://tinyurl.com/p4n68vp

Such a great fall scene. Artist: Jillian Crider. Art journal sketchbook style.

4th ACEO in my 'garden' series on vintage paper from 1887.

A new ACEO (2.5x3.5")by me and just listed on eBay. "Living High" - an elegant birdhouse in a lovely house's garden.

This elegant birdhouse is probably 'high living' for most birds, but birds also need 'living high' to stay out of harm's way.

On eBay: http://tinyurl.com/qxv2w9m my original pen and wash (ink and watercolor) on vintage 1887 hand-written ledger paper. Backed with card stock.

3rd ACEO art in new garden series on old handwritten ledger paper

This is my third in my new garden series ACEO (2.5x3.5") pen and wash (ink and watercolor) sketch/paintings.

Topped with some white gesso, this little pleasant garden scene with birdhouse "Bird Station" - making a very pleasant garden vista, all on top of an old ledger paper from 1887 - some of the old original handwriting can still be seen. I love gardens that have other elements in them. This had an old weathered wooden stool, and a rusty enamel bowl on top. Set in the basin was a birdhouse. Behind it, the building's porch, overflowing with an abundance of blood-red roses, with irises and leafy plants in front. It certainly caught my eye.

Listed on eBay HERE: http://cgi.ebay.com/itm/291256524118

"Abundance" watercolor painting 14x11" wins Quarterly award SOSA.

"Abundance" is my latest watercolor painting. It's a SFA (Small Format Art) - 14x11". A fairly intense work, covering a couple of weeks.

The scene is a typical Rogue Valley view. Eagle Point, to be exact. Showing the abundance of the area. It's as if one is peeking through blackberry and other bushes at the landscape beyond, that includes two grazing horses. The colors are typical summer golds, mixed with rich greens.

Monday night (last night) I attended the SOSA meeting and submitted this painting to be judged at their quarterly critique. To my surprise and delight I was one of the 6 quarterly award winners, making my work eligible for the end of year show for SOSA. The judge was very kind with her comments, and I am grateful.

It was lovely to find that others appreciated my work.

A word on displaying and collecting original art.

http://www.jilliancrider.com

Art adds SO much character and adds interest to one's decor.

A few years back I decked all my walls full of art. Some were from floor to ceiling. Some were my art pieces, but it included others' work, too.
I loved to look up and see it. It gave me a lot of joy.

But even more amazing, my visitors loved it. People would come in and go directly to my walls, and conversations would start up. Even people that were usually not interested in art were attracted to it.
While one large artwork over a sofa might be asthetically pleasing, maybe my ideas of collecting and displaying art might be a lovely alternative for some.
This is some of my art as displayed in my apartment a few years back. A SFA (Small Format Art - search on SFA to discover more online) watercolor 5x7" of a Royal Doulton teacup with pink roses. There is an ACEO (2.5x3.5" - search on ACEO to discover more online) on top of the china cabinet, too. And a 12x36" acrylic on canvas of music artist "Sammy Blue" (google him to check his work), a friend of mine.
Original art is OOAK - only one of a kind. If you want to be unique, this is a wonderful way to go. Great works can be found online - I'm sure you can find some to fit YOUR budget.

Happy collecting and decorating. Enjoy!

"The Rusty Banshee" SFA 5x7" watercolor painting seascape/marine art

I love all things ocean, sea, marine, having grown up just a few hundred yards from a wonderful beach, with ocean docks, wharves just a few miles further up the coast. This is from Crescent City, on the northern Californian coast. A small format artwork (SFA) in watercolor - 5x7".

The rust is what caught my eye most of all. And it's rendered pretty much like it was. I think and hope this rusty old Banshee is getting ready to go out on the waters again some day.

I have this painting up for auction at a low starting price on Daily Paintworks website - HERE. Please check out my other auctions on this site. The house from my previous post is also up for auction on there.

Looking for that perfect gift?

Not too early to be thinking Christmas presents. This is the first time I've offered custom 5x7" watercolor portraits (home or ?) https://www.etsy.com/listing/167103113/custom-art-watercolor-painting-portraits?

Think what a wonderful treasured keepsake an original watercolor painting of a much loved home would be for yourself, a close family member, or friend.

It makes for a very personal gift, and can also solve the problem of buying for those that may be difficult to buy for. And one where it's value is not seen as just a price tag - irreplaceable at any cost! It's easy to give as a gift, especially when dealing with increasing shipping charges, this can be sent as a document. Or you can gift it complete with a wonderful frame to add a finishing touch.

A home can mean so much to many. I can work from various images, though a good photograph is usually best. For nearly 20 years I drew houses as a self-employed contractor for Real Estate companies - doing over 9,000. I adore houses and architecture - it is near and dear to my heart, so I'd love to create a lasting treasure for you, too.

I can send a gift certificate if you don't or can't get a photo from your intended gift recipient.

This listing is for an artist's rendering in watercolor, done approximately 5x7" image size - this will usually fit a 8x10" frame, once matted.

If you like the idea of custom art I offer other variations - please see my other offers here on Etsy in my shop section for custom work: https://www.etsy.com/shop/artistjillian?section_id=5029301 - or convo me on Etsy or email me and we can talk about variations. I can offer many different options for you. You can also order direct from me by emailing me - and I offer discounts for multiple orders.

Finally! I got around to painting this Halloween artwork!

I spied this faux skull in a bed of blood red roses in Atlanta's famous Oakland Cemetery in 2007. They had decked out the cemetery for Halloween celebrations.

I've wanted to paint if for a long time. I chose to do it in acrylics, as an ACEO (2.5x3.5"). I wanted the colors to be bold. Though I think at some stage I may do it as a larger watercolor.

Currently listed on eBay.
