This is from an antiques store in countryside of Georgia (by Callaway Gardens). "Left on the Shelf" It's watercolor, ACEO (2.5x3.5") I loved playing with the colors in it. The next challenge was some old wooden drawers from the same place. But I'm painting. This 5x7" Watercolor painting of an appaloosa horse is from the Rogue Valley, Oregon. Title: Appaloosa Rogue. There is 8+ hours work in this. I'm pleased with the results, but was tired and it became tedious near the end, and was scared of ruining it. This is my most recent SFA (smallformat art) other than Jillianhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06081081064682774708noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5063190.post-44871871250992841422007-06-09T15:53:00.000-07:002007-06-09T16:01:37.720-07:00Well, if you don't like where you are in life, take life by it's tail and change it. I went to the same one, last year. Last year I talked to many of the exhibitors, there were some great 'characters' showing the crafts of yesteryear, I took hundreds of photos. I told some people about my art, there were artists there, but also spoke to the people I took photos of. Not long after that visit I did an Jillianhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06081081064682774708noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5063190.post-1149517676879100252006-06-05T07:16:00.000-07:002006-06-05T07:27:56.926-07:00Haven't posted in a while. Sometimes life becomes a jumble, especially when you have no clear direction, and things you believe in, suddenly are found to be not what you thought at all. Still pursuing making mainly Art Cards (ATCs/ACEOs) - 2.5x3.5" I still believe in them as an exciting art movement. I got juried in, again. :) I guess that is a great record as have gotten into all shows that I've submitted to so far for AAC. Only one entry this time. Cost me a fortune to frame this, but it needed to be framed, or I was scared it would get destroyed. Wouldn't you know it? The one I got framed especially didn't get in! One that was previously rejected got in, also a 2ndry print of my aquatint got in. I won't get in next month, as it's restricted to new members only. Anyway, I'm thrilled. Quite and honour. Also last night was the first art evening for the Jillianhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06081081064682774708noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5063190.post-1116559057074753472005-05-19T20:13:00.000-07:002005-05-19T20:17:37.080-07:00Well, the Traveling show from February is now in Gainesville, north of Atlanta. The Quinlan is a fabulous venue, and the reception last week was a treat. We also had a great showing in Dawsonville and Carrollton. Today I received the review in the Gainesville newspaper. As the director for it I was so proud to get a terrific write-up. But one remark re MY artwork caught me by surprise. Jillian Jillianhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06081081064682774708noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5063190.post-1115669946911693302005-05-09T13:14:00.000-07:002005-05-09T13:19:06.916-07:00This month's 'salon' will be on sketching and painting from models, still lifes, and plein air. The traveling show has reached its last venue - The Quinlan Arts Center in Gainesville. It opens on the 12th with an art reception, and goes until end July. A wonderful and impressive venue. I am glad my work was juried into the show so that it can hang there. Of course I'm glad to hang my art at the Jillianhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06081081064682774708noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5063190.post-1115669636928483282005-05-09T13:11:00.000-07:002005-05-09T13:13:56.933-07:00Yet again had an artwork juried into the monthly show at Buckhead. This is 6 months in a row that I've had work in. I always find it interesting that work that gets rejected one show, gets accepted the next, as was in this case. It was a watercolor of a horse on a beach at daybreak - a smaller version of a large one done previously. I named it 'Daybreak'. This time it was juried. 280 paintings and only 66 got in. "Xanadu", my boat painting done a few months ago received that honour. This month's 'Salon' will be on art marketing and shows. I'll post pictures soon. Hello to whoever ... :) Regards, JillianJillianhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06081081064682774708noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5063190.post-1113238872739961162005-04-11T09:55:00.000-07:002005-04-11T10:01:12.740-07:00March Update: The gallery had no formal juried exhibition this month, but had a really fun event with unframed art on sale. I couldn't help but purchase some of the works at 'bargain' prices. I exhibited 2 artworks - pastels: one nude, one plein air. March also marked my second monthly 'Salon' session. The first, in February was on prints, this one was on 'miniature and small format art'. This Jillianhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06081081064682774708noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5063190.post-1113238506983033972005-04-11T09:50:00.000-07:002005-04-11T09:55:06.983-07:00February 05 update: This is the 'BIG' show. The annual traveling show (I'm the organiser of it). I did a painting the week before to make sure I had a new piece to submit. Of the 3 I submitted the new one DID get in. I'll post it here later. It's a watercolor. I'm really glad to get something in - the show goes from Buckhead to Dawsonville, Carrollton, then to the Quinlan Arts Center in Jillianhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06081081064682774708noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5063190.post-1113238233094815082005-04-11T09:45:00.000-07:002005-04-11T09:50:33.096-07:00Catching up ... I guess I have just been SO busy. January I submitted 3 works for the monthly Buckhead exhibition and got one accepted, making my second in a row. It was 'Perfection in Pink'. My tiny 6x6" pink rose I painted a few months back, and showed here. I only submitted it at the last moment, and didn't expect it to get in - mainly because of being 'small format'. This is a favourite of Jillianhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06081081064682774708noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5063190.post-1104689214468724902005-01-02T10:02:00.000-08:002005-01-02T10:06:54.466-08:00Happy New Year to all. I've decided this will be my year of entering art comptetitions. I also have some other plans. I joined the Miniature Art Society of Florida, and so, in conjunction with that I've put up a page to buy some of my miniature art direct from my site (courtesy of PayPal). I've just recently found out that the book I did a cover for "Seven Words for Sand" is up for an award (Jillianhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06081081064682774708noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5063190.post-1104096160903849932004-12-25T23:25:00.000-08:002004-12-26T13:49:59.793-08:00Merry Christmas to all. I've missed out on being organised this Christmas (nothing new!), though this is mainly due to working on a large watercolour (20x27"). I'm trying to get it done for a competition/exhibiton. I finally finished it today. I started it on the 10th December. All I can see are the flaws! It's title "Venetian Glass Blowers" - for reference I used a photo taken a long time agoJillianhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06081081064682774708noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5063190.post-1102267040890105242004-12-05T09:13:00.000-08:002004-12-05T09:17:42.096-08:00Yesterday I submitted 3 works in for an exhibition that was judged. 2 'traditional' works were rejected. The good news is that one was accepted. It was a 'first' for me - submitting a screenprint - or something 'different'. I suspect that if I had painted this, it would not have been accepted. However, since it was a screenprint, it was. Maybe I should enter into a debate on art. I know Jillianhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06081081064682774708noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5063190.post-1101346319869916402004-11-24T17:25:00.000-08:002004-11-24T17:31:59.870-08:00For friends who check up on my news, other than art stuff, my job involves travel - I get to go all over the USA. I was in Houston, Texas for 2 days last week and have to go again next week for 3 days. With Thanksgiving and Xmas coming up soon travel is quite an adventure! Houston is an interesting place, on the gulf. Warmer than Atlanta, as it's more southern. The circuit around Houston with Jillianhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06081081064682774708noreply@blogger.com
