My 10th 'garden' series ACEO. Watercolor with pen and ink on vintage paper.

Original painting - ACEO (2.5x3.5") - SFA - Small Format Art (Any artwork not over 14"). "Birdy Condo"

"Original unique artwork. I love and collect old papers, but there are so many wonderful things to do with them. This is a genuine 1887 handwritten ledger page, backed with acid-free cardstock. Some of the original handwriting appears on the vintage paper.

On top I've done some pen and wash paintings/sketches from my photos of gardens and other delights.

A weathered birdhouse condominium-style by the Oregon coast. A scattering of pink roses trailing over the sides of it. I don't know if birds like to live condo-style, but it sure looks great in the garden with salt-weathered wood.

I've used white gesso under some of the painting - as this helps to make the colors 'pop' a little more. This is the same type of sketching used in art journals, urban sketches, and travel diaries.

P.S. For locals that may like to guess. This is in Charleston, OR.
Hope you enjoy these as much as I have in discovering these wonderful gardens, and creating these little paintings."

Edible art. New edible custom products on Zazzle - new 'canvas' for my artwork.

When I saw the new edible offerings on Zazzle I couldn't resist creating these from an 'old' ACEO artwork of mine that was fun to do. It can be customize further with image or text additions - maybe a photo of the new baby?

Great for baby shower or birth parties for a girl, don't you think? Brownies! FUN!

A 'wild' garden for this Coquille River Light - lighthouse in southern Oregon. A new ACEO artwork in my series.

This is a pen and wash (watercolor) sketch/painting done on top of vintage ledger paper from 1887. 8th in a 'garden' series.

My latest original, unique artwork. I love and collect old papers, but there are so many wonderful things to do with them. This is a genuine old paper is backed with acid-free cardstock. Some of the original handwriting appears on the vintage paper.

On top is art created from my study photos of gardens and other delights.

Not too many people don't like lighthouses, and those in Oregon are a treat. Often visited, photographed, and rendered in paints, inks, and pencils. This is the Coquille River Light in Bandon, southern Oregon. A favorite with so many. And while, not typically a 'garden' scene, shows the summer garden of wildflowers growing on the cliffs/rocks, by the lighthouse. Showing us that nature's beauty can show up anywhere.

I've used white gesso under some of the painting - as this helps to make the colors 'pop' a little more. This is the same type of sketching used in art journals, urban sketches, and travel diaries.

Listed on eBay here ... http://www.ebay.com/itm/291266315624

Thank you for looking, and hope you enjoy my work.

A 7th ACEO in my current pen & wash garden series.

This is a genuine 1887 handwritten ledger page, backed with acid-free cardstock.
Some of the original handwriting appears on the vintage paper.

On top I've done some pen and wash paintings/sketches from my photos of gardens and other delights. It's an ACEO - 2.5x3.5" - collectible art trading card size. Done in pen & wash - art journal, sketchbook style.

Sometimes a friend just lets you loose in their garden. This was what happened with Connie's garden. A much loved and carefree garden full of delightful old treasures and critters. A venture of discovery. Light and shadow. A great old wheelbarrow here, with rusty watering can. Overflowing with bright red geraniums.

I've used white gesso under some of the painting - as this helps to make the colors 'pop' a little more.
This is the same type of sketching used in art journals, urban sketches, and travel diaries.

Beyond the white picket fence ... a birdhouse that mimics its 'big' house. ACEO art.

When does a house become a home?

I think it's when you can see how much an owner loves their own house.

Beyond the white picket fence ... this house, shows it with the 'little' version of their house turned into a birdhouse, outside their living room window.

Pen and wash (watercolor) ACEO 2.5x3.5" on vintage handwritten ledger paper (1887).

"Fall Shadows" Pen and Wash pumpkins on a lovely doorstep. ACEO

My 5th in my new series. ACEO (2.5x3.5") pen and wash (watercolor) sketch/painting on vintage (1887) old ledger paper. "Fall Shadows" - those beautiful sunny days, but with evening shadows creeping in on all the fall loveliness, as it did with these pumpkins on a very seasonally dressed doorstep.

Available on eBay. http://tinyurl.com/p4n68vp

Such a great fall scene. Artist: Jillian Crider. Art journal sketchbook style.

4th ACEO in my 'garden' series on vintage paper from 1887.

A new ACEO (2.5x3.5")by me and just listed on eBay. "Living High" - an elegant birdhouse in a lovely house's garden.

This elegant birdhouse is probably 'high living' for most birds, but birds also need 'living high' to stay out of harm's way.

On eBay: http://tinyurl.com/qxv2w9m my original pen and wash (ink and watercolor) on vintage 1887 hand-written ledger paper. Backed with card stock.

3rd ACEO art in new garden series on old handwritten ledger paper

This is my third in my new garden series ACEO (2.5x3.5") pen and wash (ink and watercolor) sketch/paintings.

Topped with some white gesso, this little pleasant garden scene with birdhouse "Bird Station" - making a very pleasant garden vista, all on top of an old ledger paper from 1887 - some of the old original handwriting can still be seen. I love gardens that have other elements in them. This had an old weathered wooden stool, and a rusty enamel bowl on top. Set in the basin was a birdhouse. Behind it, the building's porch, overflowing with an abundance of blood-red roses, with irises and leafy plants in front. It certainly caught my eye.

Listed on eBay HERE: http://cgi.ebay.com/itm/291256524118

2nd ACEO in my new series - a gorgeous window box with a shuttered windown

This is the 2nd ACEO (2.5x3.5" - collectible art card size) from me in a series I am doing. Pen and wash - journal-style - watercolor with ink. This is an eye-catching window box of red geraniums putting on their spring-time show on a ledge in front of a divided window on a cedar shake house, that sports dual-panel shutters to complete the 'look'. Painted onto a handwritten ledger paper from 1887, and backed with cardstock.

Now on eBay - find it here ... http://www.ebay.com/itm/291254725571 - Jillian Crider 'artistjillian' - Thank you for looking. More coming soon ... I'm doing a 'series' - I am putting my studies of local gardens to good use! :)

WIP: A journal for a young musician.

Working on this. It's a journal for a young musician. I'm rather pleased the way the cover turned out. I know I would enjoy this. It's a custom work for a friend.

A simple design, so that more can be added to by the recipient. Making some interior pages for it. Fun to do, made with love.

My latest dollhouse scale original miniature painting (seascape).

MINIATURE: Original watercolor painting. "Drifting" 1:12 scale. 2x1.5" A peaceful and beautiful colored scene of a tethered dinghy in a marina with gentle reflections. I painted it for the peaceful scene. But ended up loving it for the colors. A great addition to a room box, dollhouse, miniature display or even framed for your walls in a SFA collection.

A painting that has seen the world.

This has been tucked away, but I finally got my act together to list it on eBay. "Old Station Cat" has quite a story to tell.
The subject is a very elderly and scruffy cat that investigated me while taking photos of his home. An old country railway station that is now converted into a home, but with a lot of old station features, like a ticket office and more.
I painted him in quite fine detail, in acrylics. It was my first foray into painting 'miniature' according to specifications from the Australian Society of Miniature Artists. The painting is 4"x 3" approximately - now much larger than the miniatures I usually do. It was ultimately selected to tour galleries in Europe (Germany), United Kingdom, and Australia. So it went on quite a journey, lasting well over a year. No sooner had it returned to me, than it moved with me to the U.S.A and has been shown in a few galleries - both east coast (Georgia) and west coast (Oregon). But it has mainly been tucked away. Because it is the only one of this kind, and didn't really 'go' with others I was exhibiting.
So, here it is, listed on eBay, as it's looking for a good home.
More details on the listing. Thank you for looking.

10 more dollhouse miniature (1:12 scale) paintings.

I'm doing an archive of all my art (no easy task). Currently working on my dollhouse miniatures. I'm up to page 4.
This is a link to this page on my 'artistjillian' website:
http://www.artistjillian.com/miniature-art-dh04
Graphic shown above is a pictorial summary of the 10 original paintings on that page. The page includes painting details. All are 1:12 scale.
Some of these were done for themed work for miniature enthusiasts (Paris/Tuscany) specifically for their dollhouses/room boxes.

New miniature watercolor painting - dollhouse size.

This painting is 2" x 1.5" approximately, and an original watercolor painting. One of my favorite subjects and past times. "It's a tradition - scones, jam, cream and tea." Would look lovely in any dollhouse or miniature setting, such as a room box - such as a tea room or cafe, especially English inspired. It's currently available on eBay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/291220887065?

The trials and tribulations of painting in small sizes ...

Many of my paintings are miniature, and, as such, they can go 'missing' easily. This one, a watercolor, "North Adelaide Roses" has been out of sight and out of mind for quite some years.
I'm now offering it for sale on eBay:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/291219887420?
It would fit nicely into any dollhouse or miniature room box setting.
1:12 scale, sold framed, size of art is approximately 1.75 x 1.5". There are lots of tiny details in this work.

Some more grab-bags now available! Heart shapes.

My last range of grab bags sold out. Hearts are always popular, so I've listed some grab bags that are just hearts.
These papers are mostly 100+ years old, and the images I've used are vintage, too.
Inspiration for your paper craft and art projects. It takes me a long time to collect the papers, images, and tools to make all these, so understand that sometimes your creative project is delayed while you accumulate what you need.
With these grab bags you have inspiration and supplies at hand - ready to go.

Use for ACEOs, collages, art journals, scrapbooking, greeting card creations, tags, project life projects, ATCs, altered art, altered bottles, altered tins, canvas art, artwork, and much more.

Sharing a simple technique for paper crafting.

Sharing a technique from when I used to teach. 2-tone paper with rubber stamp. 2 contrasting pieces of paper (e.g. lime/black). Rubber stamp the middle of one (lime) with same color (black) as the other paper. Cut the lime paper in half to the top of the rubber stamp, but leave a small margin around the outside of the stamp shape to the bottom, then cut remaining paper in half. Glue the stamped paper on top of the other sheet. An easy 2-tone eye-catching effect for multiple use - tags, journals, embellishments, etc.

"Abundance" watercolor painting 14x11" wins Quarterly award SOSA.

"Abundance" is my latest watercolor painting. It's a SFA (Small Format Art) - 14x11". A fairly intense work, covering a couple of weeks.

The scene is a typical Rogue Valley view. Eagle Point, to be exact. Showing the abundance of the area. It's as if one is peeking through blackberry and other bushes at the landscape beyond, that includes two grazing horses. The colors are typical summer golds, mixed with rich greens.

Monday night (last night) I attended the SOSA meeting and submitted this painting to be judged at their quarterly critique. To my surprise and delight I was one of the 6 quarterly award winners, making my work eligible for the end of year show for SOSA. The judge was very kind with her comments, and I am grateful.

It was lovely to find that others appreciated my work.

Plein Air at Hanley Farm, Jacksonville. Painting SOLD!

In June (on Flag Day) I went to a Plein Air/Watercolor paint-out at Historic Hanley Farm, in Jacksonville. I was motivated to do this pen and wash of the front of the old house - it was all decked out for the occasion, and for the up-coming 4th of July.

I had just been accepted as an artist in the "Art Presence Art Center" in Jacksonville (museum grounds), and so planned to frame it and put it in their July "Red, White, and Blue" exhibition.

I ended up with about 16 paintings in the exhibition, and included 4 of my miniature watercolors, along with a large magnifying glass so that the details in these paintings could be enjoyed.

Being a "Co-Op" gallery, I was doing my turn to tend the gallery one Saturday, and a gentleman came in and purchased this artwork. It was a lovely surprise!

It's a SFA (Small Format Art), 7x5".

Watercolor painting - ACEO - Shriner clown.

I have always loved my clown series, but it's been several years since I have done one. I decided that it fitted a theme on guys faces for the month of June. I love letting their personalities shine on through, without being overwhelmed by their costumes. The hair on this one presented a challenge, but loved that about doing this one.

I've titled this "Red, White, and Never Blue". By artist, Jillian Crider (artistjillian)
http://www.JillianCrider.com

It's transparent watercolor. ACEO size (2.5x3.5").

These clowns were in Marietta, Georgia at a Shriner's Circus around 2007. I got to hang out with them before the show, and they were just so really wonderful. Please support the Shriners. they do wonderful work, and with lots and lots of heart.

A tip for art journal pages. Printing shortage. Using washii tape.

My printer tends to print a little 'short' of a full page at times - so I have a blank gap. For art journal pages this is a bit annoying, but I was very pleased with the results of using a strip of black dotted washii tape along the bottom. It fitted in perfectly, and for this printed page, it just added the right amount of subtle interest.
If you collect old papers, you could cut a tape-like strip of text, and paste that. Having a ragged top to it could also work well.

I've offered prints on old book pages in my Etsy store before, as well as currently. But this is a first.

I was thinking how much I love teacups, especially those with pink roses, and then thinking how popular prints of my watercolor of one has been. I had an old book from 1876 nearby, and was thinking of printing on the pages of it. And from there, this became my new creation (using my own art for printing onto old book pages).

It would be great for a feminine themed area, tea shop / cafe, or would suit shabby chic decor.

The book has some wonderful old quotations from Victorian times. Did people ACTUALLY talk like this - thee, and thoust, etc.? This is the real thing - you get the book page with the print on it. If it sells, I may offer more - just on different pages, of course.

Photobombed by a Squirrel!

Going through my photos, and tagging them with keywords, and loved this ruined farmhouse (southern Oregon), so enlarged it. I started to laugh ...
I was ...
Photobombed by a squirrel!
This little guy looked up out of a ditch/creek? to see what was happening to an otherwise quiet rural area. Took 3 photos, he's in 2 of them. Made me laugh.

A word on displaying and collecting original art.

http://www.jilliancrider.com

Art adds SO much character and adds interest to one's decor.

A few years back I decked all my walls full of art. Some were from floor to ceiling. Some were my art pieces, but it included others' work, too.
I loved to look up and see it. It gave me a lot of joy.

But even more amazing, my visitors loved it. People would come in and go directly to my walls, and conversations would start up. Even people that were usually not interested in art were attracted to it.
While one large artwork over a sofa might be asthetically pleasing, maybe my ideas of collecting and displaying art might be a lovely alternative for some.
This is some of my art as displayed in my apartment a few years back. A SFA (Small Format Art - search on SFA to discover more online) watercolor 5x7" of a Royal Doulton teacup with pink roses. There is an ACEO (2.5x3.5" - search on ACEO to discover more online) on top of the china cabinet, too. And a 12x36" acrylic on canvas of music artist "Sammy Blue" (google him to check his work), a friend of mine.
Original art is OOAK - only one of a kind. If you want to be unique, this is a wonderful way to go. Great works can be found online - I'm sure you can find some to fit YOUR budget.

Happy collecting and decorating. Enjoy!

Original ACEO (2.5x3.5") watercolor painting. Historic old Victorian house porch, entry doors.

"The Old Victorian" original ACEO watercolor (+ some ink). 2.5x3.5". Listed on eBay:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=291101208118

"I tend to get 'caught up in all the details' when doing my art. I deliberately chose a looser style with this, and love that I did. The house is lived in an historic with wonderful Victorian features. Shown in the 'lace' work on the door and side windows. A 'side' door to the house, but accented with a lovely garden and topped off with an American flag.
The garden is lit with sunlight, which in turn is reflected in the windows and door glass.

Although some of my brush strokes give fine details, I chose to add a little bit of ink work, particularly to emphasize the iron lace scroll work and to add character'. Some nice steps make this entry seem really inviting. I love old houses, and this one is a joy!"

New ACEO watercolor painting. Cowgirl barrel racer - white horse.

Original ACEO watercolor painting 2.5x3.5" "I'm grinnin'. I'm winnin'."

"Just the sheer exhilaration of barrel racing sets one's heart a'poundin'.
Whether this rider is grinning for the pure joy of it, or because she's winning, I don't know.
This is a winner for capturing the thrill of this ride! Yehaw!
Cowgirl up!"

NEW! SFA watercolor - Horses, people on beach at dawn.

I just finished this original SFA watercolor last night. SFA = Small Format Art - nothing over 14".

This is 6x6" square.

I've wanted to paint this for a long time, so I can't help but wonder where these people are now. No doubt the 'little' girl is at least a teenager. Dawn at one of Adelaide, South Australia's beaches (Semaphore). Where horses are allowed to exercise on the beach and in the surf up until 8am. At one stage this was along all the beaches, and a great many were exercised at Grange, where I lived, and was lucky enough to be let ride sometimes, as a child.

I've done several paintings from this location. Love this with the Mum, child, big and little horses (Shetland pony), and Jack Russell Terrier running alongside.

"Starting The Day With A Gallop" - currently listed on eBay for a week at a very low starting price (along with 7 other SFA watercolors). http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=291060359629

ACEO original collage using vintage buttons - scottie dog, shoes, and goose.

On eBay: http://www.ebay.com/sch/merchant/artistjillian

Some more 'playing' with vintage buttons - use them to design original ACEO (2.5x3.5") collages around. A fun task.

Another Scottie dog - turning back time to another era when Scotties were 'the' dog to have.

Mother Goose transparency transfer, vintage paper and a colorful garland and spotted washi tape set off a button of a goose with a hat.

Finally - Kick up your heels with these CanCan twins. Ah... Gay Paree (Paris), altered vintage images, with rubber stamps and a bit of bling!

More to come soon. These are currently listed on my eBay account.

ACEO + miniature painting all in one - Savannah Swamp

Original art. 1.2" x 2.35" (approx.) miniature gouache (transparent watercolor) painting on illustration board mounted onto an ACEO (2.5 x 3.5") with transparent photo corners. The ACEO has the swamp landscape continued onto the ACEO using ink.

ACEO (Art Cards, Editions & Originals), always 2.5x3.5"!
SFA - Small Format Art (nothing over 14")

"An experiment with ACEO creation. I combined a miniature dollhouse painting with an ACEO. The image is of one of the swamps found in my travels around Georgia. It was close to Savannah, Georgia - coastal. A fun work, and quite unique." By Jillian Crider.

ACEO featuring a vintage Scottie dog button - French.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=291051035030

"At one stage 'Scotties' were 'the' dog to have. This button is just SO cute and from that era. So kept a really simple composition. I tied it on using yellow and white bakers' string. Creating my own French theme using an image from an old vintage book.

This would be great as a collectible ACEO, or as part of a journal or larger collage."

"Another 'found vintage button' - yellow gloves. I immediately thought of sexy black lace. I hunted and found a favorite vintage Victorian image of the lady with wonderful gloves. I composed all together on a yellow ACEO - real lace, image, embossed black circle shape, and button. Then added a black scroll brad with just a touch of glitter.

All up, a seductive mix, I think. This would be great as a collectible ACEO, or as part of a journal or larger collage."
